There are many instances where you have to boot your pc/laptop in safe mode. Booting your computer in safe mode is the excellent feature Microsoft has provided by which any one can restore their operating system. If you have installed some hardware or software that is not compatible with the existing operating system then usually you can not start the windows normally. To start windows normally, you have to uninstall or remove that particular software or hardware. Safe mode helps you to start the windows and also unable you to remove or uninstall the conflicting hardware or software.

In short, safe mode is also called the diagnostic mode. Most versions of windows starting from window 98, windows XP, ME, Windows 2000, Vista and the latest windows 7 have safe mode feature. In the safe mode only the main components are loaded in to the memory. Due to this it is not possible to access the DVD or any external Drive. Here is the step by step method to boot your computer in safe mode.

There are different ways to boot your computer in safe mode. The simplest and not complicated method is starting the computer using F8 key.

  1. Switch on the power of your computer.

  2. As soon as it finishes loading all the bios settings, start

    pushing the F8 keys several times until you get the advanced mode menu. If you start pushing the F8 key too early then you may get keyboard error. If this happens then you have no choice but to restart the computer and wait for the bios to load completely. Some computer may give you audible click when bios are completely loaded. Press key F8 after that audible click.

  3. On the Advanced menu you will see several options. With the help of your keyboard you can select any one option. Arrow keys of your keyboard will move the highlighted option up or down. Select the Safe mode option and hit enter. Your screen will blank out and then some lines will be scrolled and finally you will see blue/green or any default color screen with safe mode written on four side of that screen. Your screen saver etc. won't be visible and some of your hardware like printers etc. won't be loaded.
